Production Diary - Yoke Infestation

18/09/2024 - 19/04/2024


Today I started to think about out the story and dialogue for my game today. I Spent a few hours of time checking out some horror games for inspiration, which was pretty fun. I have some good ideas that I'm excited to maybe start and bring the game to life. I will probably change the storyline a bit, but for now I think it's ok.


I also took a look at Unreal Engine today. Seems like it offers more realism compared to Unity. Might be a good idea for the game ideas I have.




 

22/04/2024 - Today I finished off my post for parasites & sub-cultures where I researched the meaning of parasite and sub-cultures and also looked into the history of otakus.


 

25/04/2024 - Today I started and finished off my games development design for my game yokai infestation.


 

26/04/2024 - Today i researched what IP (intellectual property) meant and also looked at tutorials for landscape and scenery for unreal engine to familiarise myself with it


 

03/05/2024 - Today I made a questionnaire that had open and closed questions in there i also started with the starter scene


 

06/05/2024

09/05/2024 - Today i started to do the movement for the yokai infestation including the blueprints and the character, i also made a flashlight effect



Blueprints

My notes for the Camera Smoothness:

  • go to the camera boom details and enable 'Camera Lag' for smoother camera movements.

  • Adjust both camera rotation lag and camera rotation lag speed to 9 for optimal smoothness.

Character Movement:

  • Set the maximum walk speed to 350 for balanced and responsive character movement.

13/05/2024 - The AI wasn't sensing me, so I was confused about why it wasn't following the player. I double-checked the blueprints but couldn't identify the problem.

14/05/2024 - Today, I tried again to fix the issue. I discovered that I didn't check the Bool value, which is why the AI couldn't see me.


I retargeted and uploaded a UE4 animation, then transferred it to UE5.

I also created a blueprint for the AI to attack. Here are the blueprints.

And here is a video of the AI attacking and the animation of a shove movement.

15/05/2024 - Today I made a blueprint for the player to be able to sprint or not, here is the blueprint for it.

I was going to create the UI for the stamina, but I got confused and left it. I probably won't add a stamina system.

Here is the gameplay so far.



20/05/2024 - Have to make everything all over again in UE 5.3 as i mistakenly used 5.4.

21/05/2024 - Completed everything i did in UE 5.4


22/05/2024 to 1/06/2024 - Started to think of what to make in the UI I ended up with this.




2/06/2024 - Didn't really like how it looked as it didnt match the theme of the game with bright colours so i decided to make the colour scheme black and red.


3/06/2024 - 6/06/2024 - Here are all the UI's for yokai infestation, the font for these are:

7/06/2024 - Here is everything so far, I still have to add the scenery and character meshes but once thats done itll be kind of finished.

This is it.. the gameplay so far, I think its ok but its not scary but it was still fun making it


12/06/2024 - today i added more bamboo and petals and i think im done now
